Sustainability-Focused Academic Programs
Several departments on campus offer environmental sustainability-focused degrees, including:
- Department of Geosciences – Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science
- Department of Journalism – Bachelor in Journalism, with a concentration in Environmental Journalism and Communication

TN Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC)
- TDEC regularily updates a solid waste plan for the state that outlines objectives and ideas to reduce waste and improve recycling rates. You can check out the 2015-2025 solid waste plan, which is currently in effect, as well as the objectives for the 2025-2035 solid waste plan.
- TDEC also supports reducing food waste through the Get Food Smart TN Program, as well as moving toward zero waste through the Zero Waste TN Program.
TVA EnergyRight Incentives
- TVA EnergyRight provides financial incentives to help businesses reduce energy use and lower operating costs. Incentives are available for things like HVAC upgrades, LED lighting, refrigeration improvements, electric forklifts, thermal ice storage, and custom energy‑saving projects.
